Our vision is to holistically empower people in Liberia through education and practical projects. According to their strengths and competencies, they learn to take responsibility, thus having a positive formative influence on their community.

Well construction

Many remote bush villages do not have clean drinking water. The hand-dug wells are each a joint effort of a LFL well digger, the villagers and a sponsor.

Fish farming

At the LFL compound, all-male tilapia are bred and sold for further rearing in fish ponds.

Our local employees learn to take responsibility for the rearing of the juvenile fish by promoting networked thinking and action, and by guiding them to work cleanly and accurately.

Agriculture

Brewer's spent grains are a valuable waste product from the local brewery and can be used for animal feed or compost.

We support our local employees in experimental field trials, where they gain insights into how this valuable resource can be reused expediently and effectively.

Health

We support diabetics with know-how and medical supplies, giving them a new quality of life.

A second focus is the treatment of burn victims. Since cooking is done on an open fire, accidents happen again and again. Traumatized children and helpless parents receive tailored and comprehensive support from us.

ICF Micro-Church

ICF Micro-Church Liberia meets every Saturday evening to follow the online English worship service of ICF Zurich. We celebrate our faith in God, integrate it into everyday life and enjoy relationships. Our goal is to inspire people to live with Jesus Christ.

On Sundays we have the Kids Church.

Reading classes

Liberian women meet once a week to read together in the Kpelle Bible. They value the fellowship where they encourage each other while learning to read in their native language.

Education

Even after years at school, many students still can hardly read and write. We offer selected students the opportunity to acquire missing knowledge and thereby gain a much better perspective for the future. This is mainly done through supervised self-study.

Sustainable action

Sustainability is very important to us. A few examples:

  • Most of our energy used is solar.

  • Local employees cook daily on the pyrolysis burner. Wood chips, a waste product from the local carpentry shop, serve as fuel.

  • For our fish farming we use a closed loop system. Water contaminated by the fish is biologically treated and returned to the holding tanks. (Recirculating Aquaculture Systems, RAS).

Our projects are all aimed at giving the local population better prospects for the future - in this way we make an important social contribution to society.
